The ex-Leeds boss lasted 32 games in Leith and leaves the club in the bottom six with just one win in the league this season. His last game was 5-2 defeat to Celtic in the League Cup.
In total his Leith reign lasted just under nine months, and despite an impressive start which saw him go undefeated in 10 league games, his start to this season has been deemed not good enough.
They have dropped points from winning positions six times this season and many of Heckingbottom’s new Hibee recruits simply haven’t lived up to the task since their arrivals.
With the club stuck in tenth and just one point off the bottom, the Easter Road board has moved to revitalise their stuttering campaign by sacking their current manager in favour of a fresh face.
It’s the second Premiership sacking in the space of a week after Craig Levein was dismissed across the city at Hearts after an equally poor start to the campaign.
Here is how some Hibs fans have reacted to the Heckingbottom announcement.
Good, but it should have been done a long time ago.
