The first Scottish Premiership managerial departure of the season was confirmed on Thursday morning when Livingston announced that they had accepted the resignation of Gary Holt.
Holt had been at Livingston since 2018, and did an excellent job in both campaigns. In his first season, he guided the team that were favourites for relegation to a ninth place finish.
Second season even better than first
His second season was even better, as Livingston finished fifth. There was also memorable victories over Celtic and Rangers in the two seasons.

However, after a poor start to this season which sees Livingston currently in 10th place, Holt has decided to move on. It is interesting though that the club announced that they had regretfully accepted the resignation. That has to be recognition of how well Holt has done in his time at the club.
Livingston probably wanted Holt to stay as they club might well have felt that he could have manoeuvred them away from relegation trouble.
However, perhaps Holt thought that wasn’t going to happen this season. Some Livingston fans reacted to the news of Holt’s exit on social media, and they were full of praise for the job he did in the last two seasons.
Fans full of praise
One fan claimed that Holt has performed ‘miracles’ during his time at the club. Another felt that he had done a ‘fantastic’ job. Whoever replaces Holt will have a tough job on their hands, as in his two years at the club he established them back in the Premiership.
