Sheffield Wednesday picked up a huge win in the Championship relegation battle with a 1-0 win over Derby County on Friday evening.
The win took the Owls out of the relegation zone, and the winning goal was scored by Scottish international Callum Paterson. He headed home the only goal of the game in the 61st minute. Ironically the goal was scored against Paterson’s Scotland teammate David Marshall.
Two goals in two games
The goal was the 26-year-old’s second in two games for Wednesday. He also scored in the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough. It hasn’t been an easy season for the Sheffield club, as they started the campaign on minus six points. However, as it stands the team currently has 19 points, and is out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

They are also without a manager after the recent dismissal of Tony Pulis, but that hasn’t stopped Wednesday from picking up six valuable points in the last two games.
Wednesday is next in action in the FA Cup when they face a trip to Exeter. If the strongest team is being picked, then you have to imagine that Paterson will be in it. However, some changes might well be made, as staying is likely far more important than an FA Cup run.
Some Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media were impressed with Paterson’s performance and goal in the vital win.

One fan suggested that Patterson’s goal could be enough to keep Wednesday up this season. Only time will tell if that happens, but it was a big win.
