Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has cast doubt on Stuart Armstrong’s participation in this evening’s game against Leeds.

The Scotland midfielder missed the recent game against Chelsea, and now the Saints boss has disclosed that the player has only a ’50-50′ chance of featuring in tonight’s game.

The good news for the 28-year-old is that Hasenhuttl doesn’t think his injury is that serious, but he could still miss out on his second game in a row.

“The only problem”

“It is nothing serious. The only problem we have with him is his fitness. This is the biggest issue we have” he said.

“We have to work on his physical fitness because two games in three days are a problem for him and when you want to be at the highest level you have to manage three or four games of this intensity” the Saints boss continued.

“It is not perfect”

“This is what he cannot do so far, and he has to work on this because it is not perfect for a Premier League player.”

When asked to rate his chances of featuring in the game, Hasenhuttl was keeping his cards close to his chest.

“It’s fifty-fifty. That is a lot for me, it doesn’t sound a lot to you, but it’s a lot!” he said.

The Saints boss will be hoping that Armstrong does return, as he has been in good form recently. Indeed, in his last two appearances before his injury, he had a goal and an assist.

Even an appearance on the bench would be good news for the Saints. Only time will tell on that front.
