St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson says he won’t ‘put the brakes’ on players leaving the cinch Premiership club as teams such as Celtic look at his top talents.

The McDiarmid Park team are braced for interest in several members of their historic League Cup and Scottish Cup winning squad. Defenders Jason Kerr, Jamie McCart and Shaun Rooney have all been subject to interest from English Football League clubs while Celtic have scouted midfielder Ali McCann on two occasions.

Davidson knows that a couple of players may leave Perth this summer (Sky): “It has to be balanced for the club. But I will never stop a player going to play at a higher level. I wouldn’t want to put the brakes on that. You look at what they have achieved, more than I ever did as a player for St Johnstone. So all credit to them.

“It is frustrating because I want to be successful. I want to win every game. If we are going to lose a couple this summer, we can’t lose too many.

“That affects the team spirit. Hopefully we only lose one or two instead of three or four.”
