LASK manager Dominik Thalhammer says St Johnstone midfielder Ali McCann ‘will be’ wanted across Europe, amid interest from Celtic and the EFL.
Celtic scouted McCann twice last season and were public in their admiration of St Johnstone’s midfielder. EFL outfits are also interested in the Scottish Premiership player who shone in the Europa League against Galatasaray this month. St Johnstone are in Austria to face LASK in the first leg of a Europa Conference League play-off.
Thalhammer can see why McCann is attracting interest but hopes he won’t hinder his side reaching group stage football on the continent: “I rate St Johnstone very strongly as a team but they also have some solid individuals. We watched Ali McCann as well as players like Chris Kane and Shaun Rooney, who scores goals coming from the flank.
“McCann is a great player and someone who will be interesting for other teams in Europe. We respect them a lot. We know that they play differently in their league to how they play in European competition. In Europe they play very fast and with long ball, as you saw against Galatasaray.
“In the league they play with more possession, are more patient and have more crosses. They can go from back to front pretty quickly. We have to be ready for that and to prevent counter-attacks.”
