Huddersfield Town cult hero Collin Quaner and striker Jonathan Obika will leave St Mirren once their contracts expire at the Paisley club.

Junior Morias and academy player Nick McAllister will also leave the club, with just four players not being offered new deals as their contracts come to a close. Quaner arrived in January following Premier League experience with Huddersfield Town.

Whilst establishing himself as a cult hero with crucial goals for Huddersfield Town, he couldn’t replicate that form in Paisley, scoring once in eight matches during an injury-hit spell. Obika meanwhile confirmed his departure last weekend after a fruitful two-year stay, with options to stay in Scotland beyond Paisley.

Promising prospect McAllister is also on the move while Jake Doyle-Hayes, Ilkay Durmus, Dylan Connolly and Lewis Jamieson have all been offered new deals. Brandon Mason has returned to parent club Coventry City following his loan stint. St Mirren finished seventh in the Scottish Premiership during the 2020/21 campaign.

Club captain Joe Shaughnessy has signed a new two-year deal with St Mirren after joining last summer, the Irishman saying: “It’s been brilliant I thought when I signed that we were building a good squad to have a good season and it turned out to be that. I really enjoyed it and that’s why I’m really pleased to get signed up for another two years.

“We nearly achieved everything that we set out for at the start of the season. We came really close to finishing top six and reached two semi-finals. Everyone at the club wants to kick on and make sure next season is as good, if not better, than last season.”
