Jim Goodwin is after a new defender at St Mirren as the transfer window comes to a close.

The Buddies made two exciting additions in attack in the middle of the window, signing Eammon Brophy from Kilmarnock and Huddersfield Town cult hero Collin Quaner. Nathan Sheron has returned to Fleetwood Town following his loan stint in Paisley.

Deadline Day is always a busy night for the Saints and the manager would like to sort a deal for a left-sided defender: “It’s always a late night and we will be here until the window closes. We will see what happens.

“We are working on one or two things but it isn’t the end of the world if nothing happens. I do think though that we need some more cover in the backline. A left-sided defender preferably as we lack a bit of balance preferably.

“But if the window shuts then I am fine because the players have shown they are more than capable. A left-sided defender would be the icing on the cake though. We did great business in the early parts of the window getting Eamonn Brophy and Collin Quaner in. We have fantastic options up top now, well-covered in midfield. A defensive-minded player would be a bonus but not a necessity.”
