Donis Avdijaj has said Daniel Stendel is the reason he has decided to swap Trabzonspor for Hearts.
The striker has had his contract at Trabzonspor terminated in recent times. He has now signed for the Jambos on a deal until the end of the season.
Avdijaj has worked with Stendel in the past and says he is the reason for putting pen to paper on a Hearts contract.
He told Hearts TV: “The coach knows me from before and I know the coach from before. We had a talk and it was directly that I want to work with him.
“He was the main guy why I (decided) to come. I’m really happy that I can work with him from now. It’s from both sides, the club and me.
“The club gives me heart and I want to pay them back, especially the coach. I can’t wait to show the people here who I am.”
Avdijaj tasked with delivering Hearts goals
Throughout his career from youth level to Europa League football, Avdijaj has scored 108 goals in 201 matches. Stendel needs the Kosovo international to get firing quickly.
The Jambos’ top scorer in league action is Ryotaro Meshino, who currently has three goals. Stendel’s new forward will be tasked with far exceeding that number come May.
Hearts travel to Dingwall to face Ross County next as the Premiership gets back underway. Sitting five points adrift at the bottom, a Highland win would be a huge lift after a convincing 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Airdrie.
Avdijaj will hope to make a big impact during his short-term stint in Edinburgh.
