Stephen Glass has poured cold water on rumours linking Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths to Aberdeen as he welcomes the pressure that comes with being Pittodrie manager.
Scotland international Griffiths is still contracted to Celtic but could be available for free in the summer if the Hoops don’t activate a one-year extension clause in his contract. Aberdeen have been strongly linked with a move but new manager Glass isn’t touching too much on it.
He’s looking to give young players chances, welcoming the intensity he will face in the Aberdeen hotseat: “Leigh Griffiths is a Celtic player and I don’t talk about players at other clubs. It’s not right. It’s not respectful to him or the players at our club. Leigh Griffiths is a Celtic player and that is all their is to it.
“The club’s philosophy and strategy is well-defined. The club wants to bring people back to this stadium, when we can, people who actually want to watch the team. They want to see young players – if they are good enough – be given opportunities. We look forward to doing that.
“Every manager who walks through the door at Aberdeen Football Club has pressure on them. I want that sort of pressure on me that is why I am here. The people who I have brought along with me want the same thing. They wouldn’t leave the situation that they are in if they didn’t believe that myself and the club would be successful. I am looking forward to what is to come.”
