Nobody would have predicted Hearts and Hibs to be the Premiership’s bottom two clubs with the first round of fixtures almost complete.
In recent years, we’ve often seen one or two of the Edinburgh duo plus Aberdeen struggle at any given time.
But for the Edinburgh clubs to be battling it out in the relegation spots at this stage is really quite something.
Each time either looks like having a revival, they’re sucked back in. But could it be about to get worse?
We’ve taken a look at their upcoming fixtures and it’s looking harrowing for one of the sides.

Hearts daunting Premiership fixtures
As if things weren’t bad enough for Hearts, bottom of the league having played a game more than teams above them, it might be about to get a whole lot worse.
The Jambos are on their travels to St Johnstone this weekend and will be praying they pick up points.
That is because their next three games after that are against Rangers (A), Celtic (H) and high-flying Aberdeen (H).
The Dons usually can’t buy a win at Tynecastle but the way things are going for both sides just now you would fancy them to break that particular hoodoo.
Sandwiched in between those matches are tough European games against Bundesliga side and a trip to take on Cercle Brugge, making for a very tricky month.
Hearts’ fixtures are as follows:
- St Johnstone (A) – Saturday November 2
- Heidenheim (H) – Thursday November 7
- Rangers (A) – Sunday November 10
- Celtic (H) – Saturday November 23
- Cercle Brugge (A) – Thursday November 28
- Aberdeen (H) – Sunday December 1

Hibs Premiership fixtures
Just above Hearts in second bottom are their rivals Hibs, who have had a similarly disastrous start to the season.
A point against Ross County last night helped them move in front in the battle to stay off the foot of the table, and they will look to capitalise on the Jambos’ horror run of fixtures to move away from them.
It won’t be easy for them either but it looks considerably less challenging for them in the coming weeks.
Hibs’ fixtures are:
- Dundee United (H) – Sunday November 3
- St Mirren (H) – Saturday November 9
- Dundee (A) – Saturday November 23
- Aberdeen (H) – Tuesday November 26
