English League One side Sunderland are the latest to register an interest in St Johnstone centre-back Jamie McCart (Scottish Sun).

Six clubs are said to be tracking the centre-back after becoming a Saints legend last season. McCart was an integral part of Callum Davidson’s League Cup and Scottish Cup winning side, along with fellow centre-back players Jason Kerr and Liam Gordon. Sunderland have taken note and want to sign him.

Surprise interest stems from Belgium, where Royal Union Saint-Gilloise are said to be keen on McCart. The centre-back is in the final year of his St Johnstone deal as teams like Sunderland circle.

Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest, Barnsley and cinch Premiership rivals Hibs are the others after McCart’s services. He returned to training with Saints this week ahead of the McDiarmid Park club’s UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign later this summer.
