He’s claimed that he’d jump on a move to Hearts if it came up- but Sunderland could be where Kyle Lafferty actually ends up.
A recent report has linked the Northern Irishman with a move to Wearside (Scotsman). He has had talks with the League One club as Phil Parkinson looks to strengthen his Sunderland team.
Lafferty was present at Sunderland’s training ground on Tuesday to hold these talks. He is currently on the lookout for a new club after a spell with Sarpsborg 08 in Norway.
Hearts is his ‘first option’
Whilst talks may have been held between Lafferty and Sunderland, the striker has already stated his ambition to play for Hearts again. Speaking to the Daily Record recently, he said that a move to Hearts would be his ‘first option.’
“My first option would be Hearts and I’ve said previously that I’d jump at the chance to go back,” said Lafferty. “I loved the time I had there, the fans were great with me and I have lots of friends there who I still keep in touch with.
“I’ve spoken with a few Hearts boys and had a few texts about what’s going on but everything is hypothetical as there has been no firm contact.”
Sunderland have seemingly made formal moves to land Lafferty, but clearly, he has his heart set on the Jambos. Will Hearts answer his come and get me shout though? They are in desperate need of a striker to shoot them up the table and Lafferty’s proven his goalscoring credentials at Tynecastle during a fruitful first stint in Gorgie.
