Sunderland are believed to be looking at Motherwell right-back and Scotland international Stephen O’Donnell (BBC).

O’Donnell’s stock rose over the summer after performances with Scotland at Euro 2020, including an outstanding effort against England at Wembley. Sunderland are reportedly monitoring his progress with a view to a transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old is a senior figure in Motherwell manager Graham Alexander’s dressing room and is a likely candidate for the vacant captaincy at Fir Park. Sunderland have been linked with a whole host of cinch Premiership players this summer.

Guy Melamed, Harris O’Connor and Jamie McCart are just some of the names linked to Sunderland, who are pushing from promotion from English League One to the Championship this season.

O’Donnell’s contract at Motherwell runs until 2023 after signing an extension earlier this year. Motherwell kick off their Premiership campaign against Hibs this weekend.
