Airdrie’s Thomas Robert aiming to win Salford City deal

Thomas Robert has been on trial with the likes of Celtic this year – but it’s League Two and Salford City where the Airdrieonians winger is now trying to win a contract (Herald).

Robert spent a fortnight with Celtic earlier this year with a view to a transfer after his training period. He returned to Airdrie for the rest of last season’s Scottish League One season and has been with English Premier League club Burnley this month.

The Frenchman arrived at ‘the Diamonds’ last year from Ligue 1 club Montpellier and is still registered as an Airdrie player ahead of the cinch League One season. Celtic interest has been prominent for many months but Robert has played in friendlies for Burnley’s U23s most recently.

In a surprising twist, his latest training stint will take him to League Two in England with Salford City, who have asked Robert to trial with them in order for Gary Bowyer’s side to assess his ability.

The 20-year-old is being viewed as a potential part of the Salford manager’s ambitious long-term plans.
