St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has spoken about why he wants an experienced defender amidst links to Efe Ambrose.
The Nigerian spent a successful stint at Celtic that was filled with silverware before spending some time with Hibs. A recent report has linked the ex-Celtic and Hibs man back to the SPFL at either Easter Road or St Johnstone.

Wright says he isn’t surprised that players like Ambrose are being linked to the McDiarmid Park side.
He told the Daily Record: “I said we would be looking at experienced defenders to add to the squad so it’s no surprise that we are linked with people.
“If you bring someone else in they have to be fit because there is no point bringing someone in and it taking them a few weeks to get fit.

“So if someone was coming in, then they’d have to be ready to go within seven to 10 days.”
St Johnstone demands may be too much for Ambrose
Nigerian international Ambrose has been without a club since the summer following a six-month spell at Derby County. He failed to play a single game for the Rams.
Given that he hasn’t played a competitive game since his last game for Hibs last season, Ambrose would certainly need time to get up to speed.

The demands set by Wright may prove to be too much for the ex-Celtic and Hibs defender. He would need plenty of time to find his match sharpness and a maximum of 10 days could be too soon for him.
That being said, Wright is giving nothing away when it comes to Ambrose speculation, but he certainly hasn’t ruled out a move.
