Uncapped Aberdeen and Kilmarnock men earn late Scotland call-ups

Uncapped pair Jack MacKenzie and Robby McCrorie are set for call-ups to the Scotland squad.

Celtic left-back Greg Taylor is poised to pull out of Steve Clarke’s group for the Nations League games against Croatia and Portugal, and will be replaced by Aberdeen’s MacKenzie.

While Kilmarnock goalkeeper McCrorie will be the man turned to with number one Angus Gunn set to drop out, reports the Daily Record. Hearts’ Craig Gordon would be favourite to start with Dundee’s Jon McCracken also in the squad.

MacKenzie joins Dons teammate Nicky Devlin in the squad, who could win his first cap along with McCrorie, McCracken, Andy Irving and Liam Lindsay.

Jack MacKenzie and Aberdeen in top form

The Dons are riding high in the Premiership and have won every league game so far – keeping pace with Celtic at the top of the table.

The left-back, 24, has played in every game for Jimmy Thelin’s men and helped them rack up 13 straight wins in all competitions, earning his first shot at international level.

He has been in an around the Pittodrie first-team for four years now but has really taken his game to a new level of consistency over the past two seasons and is now a first pick.

Scotland in the Nations League

Steve Clarke’s side take on Croatia away from home in the first match of their double header this Saturday before then facing Portugal at Hampden next Tuesday evening.

Scotland currently sit rock bottom of League A Group 1 after losing out to Poland and the Portuguese during the last international break.

With something of an expiremental squad, it will be hoped some newbies can step up to the plate and help pick up the first points of the campaign.
