League Two Walsall are not happy with Hearts over their pursuit of striker Elijah Adebayo. It emerged this week that the Tynecastle club were interested in signing the player, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
However, Walsall manager Darrell Clarke isn’t happy with Hearts’ approach to Walsall to sign the player. Walsall refused Hearts permission to talk to the player.
The League Two side are now in talks with Adebayo about a new contract. The Walsall boss spoke out about the situation.
“Angry and disappointed”
“I’m not going to say a lot on it, but I’m very angry and disappointed with the way Hearts have conducted themselves” he said (Express and Star).
“I’ve left that to the powers that be at the football club, but I’m not a happy man at all. Especially when teams tell lies, and it gets out in the public domain. As a football club we do things the right way, and it’s disappointing when other clubs don’t act in the manner we expect them to act” Clarke continued.
In talks with player over a new deal
Clarke disclosed that he has been in talks with the player for a few weeks in an attempt to keep him at the club.
“He’s obviously a player we’re in talks with, that’s been going on for weeks now. I don’t always come out in the public but there’s a lot of work being done to keep hold of our better players. But we can only do what we can do” he concluded.
Adebayo has scored 16 goals for Walsall in his time at the club. This season the 23-year-old has scored eight goals. It will be interesting to see if Hearts respond to Clarke’s comments.
