Hearts’ European clash with Heidenheim ended in disappointment and frustration after encouraging signs.
A 2-0 Conference League defeat came after an impressive first half in which the Jambos looked the better side and created a number of opportunities despite the Bundesliga men’s 60 per cent possession.
As the home side passed up those chances there was always the danger of that coming back to bite them and so it did as Sirlord Conteh and Jan Schöppner scored second half headers to put the game beyond them.
It means six points from three games for Neil Critchley’s men which is still a decent return and has them looking good for potential progression with three games to play.

Malachi Boateng impressive for Hearts again
There were some impressive individual performers for Hearts against Heidenheim but Malachi Boateng certainly stood out.
The midfielder, signed from Crystal Palace in the summer after a strong loan at Dundee, is looking to be a very good pick-up.
Boateng was imperious in the middle of the park in the last European game against Omonia, providing the base for more creative players like Blair Spittal by constantly winning back possession and then using the ball well.
He looks a similar type of player to Beni Baningime, perhaps with more physicality, but the pair work well together as a double pivot too.
It was much the same again tonight as the 22-year-old put himself about again, crashing into challenges but always timing them well and breaking up a lot of play.
Of all the summer signings the Tynecastle side made, he is looking one of the most impressive so far.
Hearts fans react to Malachi Boateng display
The Hearts support took to Boateng quickly as he stood out in the team despite their struggles early season.
He has since gone from strength to strength and they are still loving it.
In fact fans swooned over their new midfield enforcer this evening, particularly during that brilliant first half.
One said: “I’m scared by how good Hearts have been this first half. Boateng has been utterly outstanding.”
Another wrote on social media: “Malachi Boateng is a joke of player.”
Another said: “Malachi Boateng what a signing,” while another added: “Malachi Boateng what a man what a player.”
Another supporter said: “Great first half. Penrice and Boateng immense”, while another added: “Really enjoyed that. Boateng and Beni outstanding. Shankland putting great shift everywhere except in front goal. Shout out to young Forrester as well.”
