The Betfred Cup semi-final draw was made on Wednesday, after St Mirren’s memorable 3-2 win over Rangers. The four teams in the draw were St Mirren, Hibernian, Livingston and St Johnstone. A last four few would have predicted when the competition started.
When all was said and done, and the draw was completed, St Mirren will take on Livingston, and it’s Hibernian versus St Johnstone in the semi-final ties, which will be played on the 23rd and 24th of January, which will be played at Hampden Park.
Intriguing ties
The ties are certainly intriguing. St Mirren won’t fear playing any team after inflicting Rangers first defeat of the season. However, Livingston are currently in an excellent run of form under interim manager David Martindale. Perhaps he will be the permanent manager by the time that game is played next month.

St Johnstone and Hibernian will likely be a tough game to call. You would imagine that Jack Ross’ side will be favourites for the tournament. After all, they are riding high in the Premiership at the moment.
St Johnstone won’t be afraid of that game though. On their day they can be a match for any team in Scotland.
Possible rematch of 2004 final can happen
Interestingly, should Hibernian and Livingston both win then the final would be a rematch of the 2004 League Cup Final, which saw Livingston pull off a shock 2-0 win in the final.

Still, all four teams will be confident of reaching the final, and putting a new name on the Betfred Cup trophy for the first time since Ross County in 2016.
