Luton Town are the latest club to reportedly be interested in signing Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie when his Pittodrie contract ends in the summer – but a move to the English side would be a backwards step for the Scotland international.

According to the Express, Luton want to pair Shinnie with his brother Andy at Kenilworth Road but there seems little upside to the move.
Although Luton are currently top of League One it wasn’t that long ago that they weren’t even part of the EFL and were playing in the Conference.

Whether Shinnie sticks around at Pittodrie or moves elsewhere remains to be seen but moving somewhere that he’s likely to be featuring for the division’s whipping boys won’t do him much good.
After being involved in regularly reaching cup finals and finishing second in the league, scrapping against relegation down south doesn’t seem like a particularly attractive option.

At 27, Shinnie knows this could be his last big move and heading for Luton would only be a step towards obscurity – and likely harm Shinnie’s chances of retaining his place in the Scotland squad.
With a few months until his contract ends, there’s no rush for Shinnie to make a decision but Luton shouldn’t be one that he’s considering.
