Livingston star Kelly deserves Scotland call

Livingston have been this season’s surprise package in the Scottish Premiership – and goalkeeper Liam Kelly’s heroics deserve recognition from Scotland boss Alex McLeish.

Livi find themselves sitting seventh in the table which, after sacking Kenny Miller as manager just weeks into the campaign, few would have predicted.

A big part of that has been down to Kelly’s form between the sticks since signing in the summer.

The ‘keeper made the bold decision to rip up the last year of his deal with Rangers to return to the Tony Macaroni arena – and it has paid off with a string of impressive performances.

Kelly has kept 10 clean sheets from 21 league games this season and must surely be in the reckoning for a Scotland call.

With Allan McGregor and Craig Gordon in the twilight of their careers, Kelly could be a long-term replacement.

The national team aren’t in action again until March but Kelly’s performances have shown he is ready to take the step up.

At only 22, the ‘keeper could have stuck around at Ibrox and sat on the bench – but it says a lot about him that he took the plunge and moved on in search of regular first-team football.

After representing Scotland at every level from Under-16, it would be the perfect reward to win a place in the senior side.
