Billy Gilmour has had faith shown to him yet again by Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
The Scotland youth international is currently recovering from a knee injury that ended his 2019/20 season prematurely. It was a breakthrough year for the midfielder, forcing his way in senior Chelsea contention.
After impressing for the youth sides, captaining Chelsea in the UEFA Youth League, he was handed several opportunities, eventually making six Premier League appearances as well as a handful in the domestic cups.
Now Lampard has given Gilmour a boost up the squad rankings if the latest batch of squad numbers at Stamford Bridge are anything to go by.
He’s been given the number 23 shirt, vacated by Mitchy Batshuayi after his transfer to Crystal Palace.
Gilmour will miss the start of the season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.
Having had a successful breakthrough campaign last season, it’ll be exciting to see what the midfielder can do for Chelsea this term, and potentially Scotland.
