Scotland star Billy Gilmour has been warned he has to perform on loan at Norwich if he is to improve his “status” at Stamford Bridge as the Scottish wonderkid struggles to make the impact expected at Carrow Road.

With the Canaries struggling, Gilmour hasn’t been able to really influence games and has been fighting for a regular place in the starting XI – leading to suggestions his loan move could be cut short in January.

Norwich boss Daniel Farke had given a number of reasons why he hasn’t consistently started Gilmour and Tuchel challenged the Scotland international to prove he can cut it at the bottom of the table.

“First of all I want him to perform. That’s how you make it into our team, you have to perform,” Tuchel said.

“If you decide to go on loan, and I don’t mean to be harsh, but you still have to perform.

“You need to be on the pitch, you need to be the top player, no matter where you go, if you want to make it back here and improve your status.”

Norwich face Chelsea today in the Premier League as the Canaries look to climb off the foot of the Premiership table and get out of the bottom three.
