Steve Clarke has named his Scotland XI to face Israel this evening as the Scots boss looks for four points out of six in the first two World Cup 2022 qualifying matches.
Arsenal star Kieran Tierney will look to continue his good form at centre-back alongside Norwich City captain Grant Hanley and Celtic loanee Jack Hendry. Scott McTominay retains his place in midfield while Clarke makes three changes overall to his team, Che Adams, Callum McGregor and Ryan Fraser replacing Lyndon Dykes, Ryan Christie and Stuart Armstrong.
Scotland turned in a decent performance in their opening World Cup 2022 Group F qualifier against Austria. Twice behind, the likes of Arsenal man Tierney and Aston Villa’s John McGinn shone to grind out a 2-2 draw.
Now three points will be targeted against an Israel side Scotland have faced five times since 2018, this being the sixth. Clarke says it’s not the time for setting aims: “It’s too early – I said before I think the section is going to be a little bit unpredictable.
“No, I haven’t set a target. You set yourself a points target and you don’t reach it, you disappoint yourself. So, it’s better just to take each game as a game and get the points you can get out of the game. It’s an international squad that is grown well together.
“Scott McTominay has spoken about belief and arrogance. It’s not arrogance in a bad way, it’s in a good way where we want to go on and every time we go to the pitch, we’ve got a chance to win the game. That’s what we’re trying to build.”
Here is the full list of Scotland players picked to start this evening.
