Ryan Fraser’s trouble with a hamstring injury is set to continue as the Scotland winger misses out on Newcastle United Chelsea.

The Premier League is back this weekend after the international break, a historic one for Fraser’s Scotland. Now his focus turns to Newcastle as they prepare to host Chelsea this weekend.

Before the break, Fraser picked up a small hamstring tear, ruling him out of Scotland’s triple header in which they achieved Euro 2020 qualification. It was a sore one for Fraser but now it’s set to rule him out of Newcastle Chelsea too.

Steve Bruce has provided an update on the winger ahead of the match, saying the hosting of the London outfit comes too soon for the Scotland star.

“Ryan won’t make it, unfortunately, but Callum Wilson has got a chance,” said Bruce at a press conference.

“If there’s any risk whatsoever, he won’t play. He’s trained the last two days. We’ll see how he is today, and the boy wants to play. We have to make sure they’re 100% right.”

Whilst Fraser won’t make it, there may be another piece of Scottish involvement to look out for in this clash. Chelsea and Scotland talent Billy Gilmour is closing in on a senior return after a torn meniscus in July.

He made an appearance for the Chelsea U21s in the Papa John’s trophy midweek and it’ll be interesting to see if Blues boss Lampard calls upon him for the first time this term.
