Scotland midfielder John McGinn has been nominated for two of the Premier League’s awards for November after impressing for Aston Villa last month.

McGinn is one of six nominees for Player of the Month and is also in the running for November’s Goal of the Month after his stunning strike against Crystal Palace last weekend.

The midfielder played 270 minutes for Villa last month as he was involved in every minute of ties against Southampton, Brighton and Crystal Palace, scoring once from five attempts at goal and catching the eye under new boss Steven Gerrard – who is also nominated for Manager of the Month after his return to the Premier League.

McGinn is up against Liverpool duo Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo, Cancelo’s City teammate Bernardo Silva and Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis for the Player of the Month award while he is one of eight nominees for the Goal of the Month gong.

Since Gerrard’s arrival at Villa Park, McGinn seems to have found a new lease of life, with his performance against Crystal Palace, in which he scored the winner, his best of the month as Villa picked up six points from nine.

The Selhurst Park performance was probably the best example of everything McGinn can bring to a team with the Scotland star a constant threat going forward but also playing a vital role defensively as he broke up attacks and harried his opposite numbers into mistakes.

With Scotland preparing for the World Cup playoffs in March, manager Steve Clarke will be hoping McGinn can maintain his recent for with the Villa midfielder already an integral part of Clarke’s plans.
