World Cup playoff boost as Arsenal star passed for for crunch clash

Scotland are set to be handed a big boost ahead of Friday’s crunch World Cup qualifier against Moldova with Arsenal star Kieran Tierney fit to play in Chisinau after several weeks on the sidelines.

The Gunners star hasn’t played for his club since October 18 after he picked up an ankle injury against Crystal Palace but was still named in Clarke’s squad for the games against Moldova and Denmark.

Scotland assistant manager John Carver confirmed the Arsenal defender had been put through his paces this morning as the squad gets together ahead of the double-header and doesn’t foresee any problems arising.

“He looked great this morning, full of running,” he said.

“He has been out some time now but he was on the bench at the weekend.

“He has come into the camp and trained exceptionally well. We don’t see any problems with him.”

Scotland are already without Ryan Christie, Grant Hanley and Lyndon Dykes for the clash with Moldova on Friday night so Tierney coming through training is a big positive.

The Arsenal star’s lack of games recently probably won’t make a huge amount of difference for him – although Clarke may look to rein Tierney in a little, if only to protect him from himself.

With Tierney fit, it only leaves Steve Clarke without Grant Hanley in the centre of defence after the Norwich defender withdrew from the squad.
