St Johnstone boss demands Saints stars show ‘desire’ after trio of losses

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson wants to see and improved “desire and enthusiasm” from his players this weekend when they face Ross County in the Scottish Premiership – after he was left far from happy with their performance in midweek against Dundee.

The Saints made it three defeats on the bounce in midweek, winning only one of their last eight in the league, and Davidson demands that his players show the same hunger and fight they have for most of his time in charge.

After watching his side slip to tenth in the Premiership, Davidson expects better this weekend, even if the performance isn’t quite there, as he looks to put together a better run of results.

“Sometimes you can have a bad game, you can be poor on the ball, but you have to have that fight and desire to win the game,” Davidson said.

“All I want from them on Saturday is an attitude, a desire and enthusiasm to go and win the game.

“If I get that and they play poorly I will accept it, but those are two or three characteristics that I want from them and I have got from them in the majority of games I have been here.

“We had a wee blip on Wednesday night but we will get back to it on Saturday.”

Davidson will be able to welcome back veteran midfielder Craig Bryson on Saturday after he was forced to sit out against Dundee through suspension.

The Perth side will also be without Stevie May and David Wotherspoon but Glenn Middleton could make his return from injury much sooner than expected for Davidson’s side.
