It’s the final international break of the year and Aberdeen fans are probably desperate for it to be over already.
Aberdeen are flying high at the top of the Premiership and many Dons supporters have never been more invested in what their side are doing on the pitch.
So to wait two weeks before the next Aberdeen game is a bit of a pain, but it is what it is. However, it could be a time for fans to think about the busy festive period to come and of course, the January transfer window.
There’s no doubt Aberdeen will need to strengthen to keep apace with Celtic at the summit of the league, largely because Brendan Rodgers’ team will already have plans on who to bring in themselves.
Despite January being a notoriously difficult month to recruit in, Jimmy Thelin too will have an eye on who he might want to sign.
But to do that, he may need to offload some players in his squad who are getting very little game time at the moment.
With around a month-and-a-half until the transfer window opens, Not The Old Firm looks at some Aberdeen players who could leave the club in the winter.
Potential Aberdeen January window exits

Angus MacDonald
The Englishman has been with Aberdeen since a move from Swindon Town in January 2023 and played 28 games last season during a difficult time for the Dons.
But MacDonald enjoyed some great moments, including scoring in the thrilling Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic and popping up with a goal against HJK Helsinki in the Europa Conference League.
However, Thelin hasn’t given MacDonald a single minute of action in the Premiership with his only two appearances coming against East Kilbride and The Spartans in the Premier Sports Cup.
His contract expires in the summer but he could be willing to move earlier if he can find a new home.
James McGarry
New Zealand left-back McGarry is another experienced Aberdeen player who could be allowed to leave in January.
Barry Robson signed McGarry from Central Coast Mariners in 2023 and he is contracted at Pittodrie until the summer of 2026.
So a decent fee would be needed if McGarry was to depart. He’s playing back-up to Jack MacKenzie and like MacDonald, hasn’t been handed any minutes in the Premiership this season.
That will have been frustrating for McGarry so it wouldn’t be a massive surprise to see him walk through the Pittodrie exit door.
Ross Doohan
The Scotsman has been in every matchday squad for Aberdeen but the brilliance of Dimitar Mitov is keeping him rooted firmly to the bench.
Another Barry Robson signing, Doohan has only played three competitive games for the Dons since his arrival from Forest Green Rovers in July 2023.
The 26-year-old would be the man Thelin would call upon if Mitov was to be injured this season but for now, Doohan’s career up north isn’t panning out as he would have liked.
Jack Milne
Perhaps the unlikeliest of the four on this list to leave Aberdeen in January, defender Milne is probably viewed as one for the future.
The 21-year-old has played seven Premiership minutes this season under Thelin and that’s not going to work wonders for his development.
Perhaps a loan move away from the Dons is what he is eyeing up. Whether Aberdeen would sanction this remains to be seen.
