Dundee have snapped up free agent Sean Kelly on a short-term deal that runs until January 2025.

Kelly was a regular for St Mirren around a decade ago before earning a move south to AFC Wimbledon in 2016.

The defender only spent a season in England before returning to Scotland with Ross County for three seasons, where he won the Scottish Championship title.

Kelly then played for Falkirk and Livingston, leaving the latter in the summer for Cyrpiot side Karmiotissa FC.

However, things did not work out for Kelly there and he left the club to come back to Scotland. Dundee have now added him to their defensive ranks after he played for their reserve team against Falkirk recently.

Sean Kelly signs for Dundee

Dundee issued a statement saying: “Dundee Football Club are extremely pleased to announce the signing of Sean Kelly on a short-term deal till January 2025, subject to international clearance.

“The 31 year-old is an experienced defender who has made over 300 professional appearances.”

Speaking to DeeTV, Kelly said: “It’s a great feeling. Obviously the club have done well over the past few years and to be a part of it now is something I’m really looking forward to.

“The manager phoned me a wee while ago and the situation at the club was there were a few injuries so he was keen to get me on board.

“Hopefully I can add to the way the club has started the season. I can’t wait to get started.”

Why have Dundee added to their defence?

Manager Tony Docherty has seen his squad ravaged with injuries this season.

With left-sided defenders Clark Robertson and Ziyad Larkeche both unavailable at the moment, Dundee have now added cover.

Kelly is an experienced option and will relieve the injury worries at the club until the January transfer window opens soon.
