Ryan Porteous is being linked with a £1.6m move to Hull City this month and if such a deal goes through, it’s good news for Hibs.
It is being reported that the Watford and Scotland central defender is unhappy at Vicarage Road and is keen to leave the club.
Porteous has been a key player under manager Tom Cleverley this season having played 20 EFL Championship games so far.
But the 25-year-old was left on the bench at the weekend against Sheffield United. And now, speculation over his future is circling.

Ryan Porteous linked with Hull City switch
Fussball Europa are claiming that Porteous is the subject of a bid from Championship rivals Hull City. Their report states: “Ryan Porteous is not at all happy with his sporting situation – and therefore wants to leave Watford FC.
“Watford FC and Ryan Porteous will probably agree to go their separate ways in the current winter transfer window.
“According to information from Fussballeuropa.com, the 25-year-old has made it clear to the Hornets that he wants to change clubs. The reason for Porteous’s desire for change is what he sees as an unsatisfactory situation.
“The current Scottish international and European Championship participant lacks the appreciation of coach Tom Cleverley, who left him on the bench for the full 90 minutes of last weekend’s home league match against Sheffield United.
“League rival Hull City is putting out feelers for Porteous – and very specifically. The Tigers have even already submitted an offer of two million euros. The offer is to be understood as a total package including bonus payments.
“Hull City are keen to sign the defender. It is not yet known whether Porteous considers the offer attractive enough from a sporting perspective and will accept it.”
What could Hibs earn from Porteous sale?
If a transfer to Hull City goes through, Hibs will be guaranteed a percentage of the transfer fee.
Hibs CEO Ben Kensell confirmed at the time of Porteous’ sale to Watford from the Easter Road side in January 2023 that a sell-on clause was inserted into the deal.
That sell-on clause is understood to be worth 20-25 percent, meaning a cash windfall of at least £320k if a £1.6m transfer between Watford and Hull City is sanctioned.
