Sam Dalby was the man of the moment once again for Dundee United.

A revelation since signing on loan from Wrexham, where he found himself out of favour, the English striker is the top scorer in the Premiership with 10.

The tenth strike came in this evening’s Dundee derby victory, pouncing in the 87th minute to take all three points and the City of Discovery bragging rights.

Crucially, it also moved United into third place in the league after chipping away at the massive lead Aberdeen once held.

Dalby had missed chances earlier in the game but showed that didn’t bother him by having that composure when it mattered.

The 25-year-old is only on a deal until the end of the season and Jim Goodwin has previously discussed his chances of keeping Dalby.

The questions are going to continue to be asked if he keeps up this form.

Goodwin on Dundee United’s chances of keeping Dalby

The Irishman admits when signing the towering frontman on loan he always dreamed of making it long-term.

He still hopes to be able to do so but knows Dalby will be attracting attention the longer he keeps his form up.

Goodwin told Sky Sports: “It’s always a group effort, I don’t really like talking about individuals. Obviously the strikers will always grab the headlines when they pop up with the goals.

“All over the park we’ve been consistently strong. Defensively a really good unit, don’t give many goals away.

“When we do create something you always fancy Sam to get on the end of something. He’s got a real knack of finding himself in the right position.

“I knew when we took him that he would be successful here. My hope was that we’d be able to tie him down to a lengthy contract but the more he keeps banging in these goals the harder he’s going to make that task for me.

“I’m not concerned by that at the moment. I think as Dundee United supporters we should enjoy him while he’s here.

“We’ll do everything we can to try keep him but I’m pretty sure the big fella will have a lot of options in the summer.”

Goodwin on win over Dundee

Assessing the game as a whole, Goodwin added: “We’re over the moon with the result. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to mention the character of the group.

“Going a goal behind, really harshly at the time as there’s no way Kevin Holt means to handball it, but the players don’t feel sorry for themselves.

“They get themselves right back in the game and we commit bodies forward, similar to Aberdeen we’re not satisfied to try and take a draw.”
