With seven goals in his first three league appearances for Dundee United, Lawrence Shankland is proving he is too good for Scotland’s second tier already.

The hitman netted a double against Dunfermline to take his total number of goals for the season to nine. Given that August hasn’t reached its end yet, that is truly remarkable.

It’s further proof he is the best player in the Championship and that he needs to challenge himself at a high level.

Dundee United are big favourites for the title with Shankland in attack

United had to fill the void left by Pavol Safranko in the summer. They’ve not just replaced the Slovakian who scored 15 in the league last season, they’ve found someone even better.

Shankland is too good for the Championship. He would have had offers to jump up the football ladder this summer, so United must have offered him something extremely promising to convince him to stay in the Championship.

Last season he hit 34 goals and inspired Ayr to the Premiership play-offs. Now he is at United, the Tannadice side can only be considered favorites for the title, given the resources they have compared to some other sides in the league.

Shankland himself has to make sure this his last season in the division. 24 goals in the league last year and seven in his opening three matches this season show that he can play for pretty much any side in the country and many teams south of the border.

Another game, another brilliant performance from Shankland. The Tangerines frontman is far too good for the Scottish second tier.
