Johhny Russell has made a set of Dundee United supporters very happy after meeting them after a recent Sporting Kansas City match.

The winger currently ply’s his trade with the MLS outfit. The winger met up with a group of United fans after his side’s 2-1 win over San Jose.

Russell clearly has Tayside close to his heart. After the final whistle, he darted towards the group of Tangerine fans, sharing a few laughs with them and signing some autographs.

Russell is loved by Dundee United supporters to this day

Kansas City’s Scotsman spent six years at Tannadice before moving down south with Derby in July 2013.

After a four and half year association with the Rams, he made the switch to Kansas City, where he has remained since.

His current side haven’t been great this term. They currently sit in tenth place, two off the bottom in the MLS Western Conference after 26 matches.

Russell himself hasn’t been in bad form though. In the 18 matches he has featured in, the winger has scored seven times. Him and his teammates treated the United fans in the stadium to a victory, only their second in seven matches.

United fans loved Russell for his energetic performances on the flanks and his contributions to the attack, scoring 31 times in just over 100 appearances.

Not only that but he always played with a smile on his face. Russell is one of a rare breed of players who look like they truly appreciate their position.

He’ll have received a shock when followers of his old club turned up to watch him. Russell repaid them with a classy gesture that all fans can apprciate.
