Hibs face competition to sign Stephane Omeonga according to the Daily Record. They claim that the Hibees face a battle with Italian sides Hellas Verona and Ascoli for the midfielder’s signature.

The Belgian was brilliant for Hibs during the second half of last season. His combative style of play and energetic performances made him a real fans’ favourite in Leith.

Can the Hibees rival the reported Italian teams for Omeonga’s signature?

Reported Italian interest in Omeonga but Hibs seem like best bet

You would like to think the Belgian wouldn’t pick a move to Serie B over Easter Road. That’s the level Ascoli are at just now.

Although he’d be in a country he’s more familiar with, Hibs are a bigger club. They should be able to level or better any offer Ascoli put down for the midfielder.

The only team out of the two mentioned who perhaps have a bigger lure are Hellas Verona. They’ll be playing Serie A football next year. The chance to play regular football in one of the world’s top five leagues may prove too hard to turn down.

The thing is that it isn’t guaranteed. Where gametime is a certainty is Easter Road. Omeonga seems like a mature guy with a decent head on his shoulders. He’ll know a big move will beckon if he holds out for a bit longer.

Moving to Hibs and playing every week for at least a year puts him on a platform. It could bag him a bigger move than Verona or Ascoli.

There’s been reported interest in him, however, Hibs still seem like the best club for Omeonga to develop at.
