He’s been linked with the likes of Arsenal – and Hibs manager Jack Ross is backing young left-back Josh Doig to emulate players like Kieran Tierney in the Premier League.
A whole host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, are tracking the 19-year-old who has burst onto the scene at Easter Road this season. Doig is now Hibs’ regular choice at left-back and it’s resulted in comparisons to the likes of Tierney, who’s been one of the Premier League’s best full-back players this season.
Ross believes Doig has the key skills to have a career like the Arsenal full-back: “I think he has the attributes that give him a very good chance of that. First of all, I think it is one thing to start playing regular first-team football at a very good level at 18. Second of all, I think you have to dig a bit deeper.
“You have to look at what he’s shown already, what is in his locker, we still feel he can improve. He has all the necessary attributes to reach that level of the game and I think when people start discussing young players in this country, I can’t think of any better than him over the course of the season.
“He’s been so consistent in our first-team and part of a team that is challenging at the top end of the table and his performances in that time have been hugely consistent. For a teenage full-back, he is by far and away the best young full-back in the league this season.”
