He is excited by the likes of Leeds United taking an interest – but Josh Doig’s eyes are firmly fixed on all things Hibs.

Speculation has rumbled on surrounding Hibs’ teenage left-back this season after a breakthrough campaign at Easter Road. Leeds United are one of the prominent clubs linked alongside a host of other Premier League names.

Hibs chairman Ron Gordon has talked him up this week too and Doig says it’s a thrilling time amid links to Leeds United and others: “It’s exciting. The first I heard of it was on Twitter. It’s madness but I can’t focus on it too much. I need to focus on the games. But it is exciting and is a confidence boost. I try not to look at anything. I focus on football.

“This is the last big push so we need to get as many points as we can to remain where we are in the league. It’s been a shock for myself this season, playing this many games. It’s a massive bonus and I didn’t expect anything like this.

“I heard Ron Gordon speaking during the week and it was a good interview for myself! That was very pleasing. But what is for me won’t go by me and I’m not looking towards the summer. I have just focused on the games as I am loving it at the moment.”

Doig’s first-team introduction at Hibs has taken place in front of no fans, something Hibees manager Jack Ross says may have been a slight boost for the left-back. Ahead of today’s Scottish Premiership match with Rangers, Doig says he ‘cant wait’ for fans next season.

He says: “It is a normality for me playing in front of no fans. It does feel like playing first-team football but I can’t wait to play in front of fans. In the under-18s and development squad there were no fans there.

“The last time I played in front of a crowd was with Queen’s Park during a loan spell, they get about 1,000 but Hampden is so big you hardly notice them, it is crazy but I was loving it. I think it will be shock to the system when the fans are back in but I am looking forward to it. I am nervous about it but I can’t wait.”
