29 England-based out of contract Scottish players putting SPFL clubs on transfer alert

The English leagues always have a strong contingent of Scottish players on the books of clubs.

Our players dream of going down south to make it big and earn big and some often take the punt on starting off at a lower level to make it to the Premier League.

As a result, there are transfers made between Scottish and English clubs every year.

But it also happens the other way, whether it’s an older Scottish player who is ready to come home or simply one who hasn’t quite made a success of it down there.

Every year, Premiership teams will be keeping an eye on which guys down south might be available on a bosman.

So here are the 29 Scottish guys based in England who are coming to the end of their deals.

Tom Cairney

The Scotland international midfielder is probably the most high profile name on this list. Only has two full caps but has starred in the Premier League and Championship in England for many years. Hinted last year he may be open to an international return but is now 33.

Dominic Hyam

A centre half at one of Cairney’s former clubs, Blackburn, Hyam broke into the Scotland setup in recent years. Still only has one cap but a regular for Rovers in the Championship.

Angus Gunn

Scotland’s number one goalkeeper until injury recently handed Craig Gordon a chance. Out of contract at Norwich in the summer.

Liam Lindsay

Another Scot who has been a stalwart in the Championship for a number of years for Barnsley, Stoke and Preston. Still with the latter but his deal is up next year.

Kal Naismith

The former Rangers youngster signed for Bristol City from Luton in the summer of 2022, signing a three-year-deal which takes him up to the summer of 2025.
