There is no doubting what the most exciting position in a football team is.
Having that X-factor player producing the goods up front can make or break a team and its season, just ask Hearts fans after Lawrence Shankland’s exploits last season.
The Scotland striker’s form has dipped this season and, as a result, so has his club’s. In his place, several other frontmen are bulging nets instead.
Aberdeen have been on form and so they unsurprisingly have players on this list. But who else has made it?
Here is Not the Old Firm’s list of top Premiership strikers so far this season.

Ronan Hale – Ross County
A goal in every two games is a decent strike rate for any hitman. When it comes in one of the teams expected to struggle it’s even more impressive. Ross County replaced Simon Murray with a younger striker in Hale and it’s looking a masterstroke at this early stage. Can score all types of goals and recently hit a goal of the season contener against Hearts.
Pape Gueye – Aberdeen
What a turnaround for the Senegalese forward, frozen out and loaned out last season. Given a chance by Jimmy Thelin and has been central to the Dons’ start with five goals already. A fairly serious injury is a blow but they do have another striker who features on this list to rely on.
Toyosi Olusanya – St Mirren
The big striker was also known to be a handful but he is on track to have his most prolific season yet as he his hit the net four times already after scoring five league goals across the whole of last season. Has gradually improved throughout his time at the Buddies.
Kevin Nisbet – Aberdeen
Drip-fed in after his loan move back north from Millwall but already has three goals, two in the league and one in the cup. There will be more of a burden on him now with Gueye’s injury.
Marley Watkins – Kilmarnock
Killie have had their struggles this year but Watkins remains their best striker and has two goals so far. Had a superb campaign last time out and can help rescue his side’s season by keeping that up.

Simon Murray – Dundee
Renowned for starting well in the League Cup groups, Dundee’s new signing carried on that trend with four goals in five. Another two in the league since as he looks like being the smart business everyone expected him to be.
