Scotland captain Andy Robertson has reflected on what he describes as an ’embarrassing’ scoreline for Liverpool as his side were handed a major surprise.
The Reds headed into their game with Aston Villa as favourites to maintain their 100% start against a Villans side who have also began their term well.
But Jurgen Klopp’s side were stunned, losing 7-2 on their travels to Birmingham. Liverpool weren’t at it from minute one and Dean Smith’s men took advantage and put the champions to the sword.
It’s a sore one for Robertson ahead of a massive week for Scotland. The Reds left-back will lead the nation into a Euro 2020 play-off semi-final match with Israel, looking to go one step further to a first major tournament since 1998.
Robertson has looked back on a terrible day on the domestic scene prior to the Scotland contest, saying that it was something the players from Merseyside couldn’t quite believe on the pitch.

“At times we couldn’t believe it, to be honest,” Robertson said. “We weren’t good enough. We never won our second balls, we never won our challenges, we never scored from the chances we did create.
“All credit goes to Aston Villa, unfortunately. They were better than us. Every competition on the pitch they won and when that happens you’re never going to win a game of football.
“That result as a Liverpool player is embarrassing. We were 4-1 down in the first half and this Liverpool side believes that we could have come back – of course we did. But the fact we then go out and concede as many goals in the second half as well, that scoreline becomes embarrassing when you play for this club.”
