Jamie McGrath is Hibs-bound next season after signing a pre-contract to complete his Aberdeen exit.
With his Dons deal coming to and end at the end of the season, he was free to talks to other clubs and McGrath was reportedly wanted by both the Hibees and Hearts.
But it is the Easter Road side who have managed to land his signature with manager David Gray giving his initial reaction to getting his man.
The 28-year-old has signed a four-year deal in the capital which takes effect from the summer. He is injured currently and so has played his last game for the Dons.
Aberdeen have now given their take on the situation by releasing a statement, explaining that they were not prepared to offer the four years the player wanted.

Aberdeen and Hibs fans react to McGrath news
And Dons fans for the most part appear to be in agreement that their club has acted in its best interests.
Given his age, injury history and suspected high wage they feel it is the correct decision.
One said: “Decent player on his day but totally correct choice not to give him a 4 year deal, likely on some serious wages.”
Another wrote: “Fair play he was happy here, but asking for a 4 year contract after the stinkin display he’s put on this season and when he knows he’s not really worth that kind of deal is ballsy. Fair play to Hibs for wasting their time on him but a pretty mad take all round.”
This supporter said: “Right choice. A 4 year deal for him is ludicrous.”
Another added: “Absolutely the correct call. 4 years is mental given injury record. Good player but doesn’t show it nearly often enough. Much better, and more consistent, players out there.”
However, Hibs fans reckon they have called out some hypocrisy from Pittodrie after a three-year contract was handed out to 32-year-old Sivert Nilsen in the summer.
One wrote: “It’s okay though to give this huddy a 3 year deal at 32.”
Another added: “But yous offered Nilsen one of the worst players I’ve ever seen in Scotland a 3 year deal at 33. Tell me lies tell me lies tell me sweet little lies.”
Aberdeen McGrath statement in full
A Dons spokesperson said: “Jamie McGrath will leave Aberdeen at the end of the season following the expiry of his contract.
“We were informed by fellow Premiership side Hibernian that he has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Edinburgh club.
“Both Jamie, who will miss the rest of the season through injury, and his representative made it clear he was happy at Pittodrie, and was keen to stay, but we were not prepared to offer him a four-year extension.
“Everyone at Aberdeen FC respects Jamie’s decision to look elsewhere, thanks him for his time at the club and wishes him all the best for his future career.”
Upon announcing the deal, Hibs boss David Gray said: “We’re delighted to have agreed a pre-contract with Jamie. He’s a player that we’ve admired for some time.
“He’s a creative player that will add extra quality in our midfield and in the final third.
“It’s clear to everyone that he’s been a stand-out performer in the Scottish Premiership over the last few years, and his experience and character will add to our dressing room.
“We all look forward to working with Jamie in the summer.”
