Aberdeen have been linked with a move for ex-Celtic and Kilmarnock midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu (Scottish Sun).

A lack of fitness in Derek McInnes’ midfield has lead to him deploying defenders Zak Vyner and Greg Leigh in the engine room during the Dons’ last two matches.

Whilst it worked in a 3-0 win over Motherwell, the pair were brutally exposed against Celtic, as the Hoops’ experience prevailed in a 4-0 thumping at Pittodrie.

Mulumbu is still without a club

Mulumbu was released by Celtic during the summer after a miserable spell at Parkhead. He made more Kilmarnock appearances than Celtic ones whilst contracted to the Hoops, which tells you all you need to know.

In total he made 3 appearances at Parkhead. He has also had lengthy spells in the Premiership and the EFL with Norwich City and most notably West Bromwich Albion as well as two stints with Kilmarnock.

Last season he spent time out on loan at Killie, making 12 appearances. Nobody has picked him up since though, and as a result, the 39-cap DR Congo international remains unattached.

McInnes will want to tighten up his Aberdeen midfield following Sunday’s mauling and if reports are to be believed, Mulumbu could be the man to do that.
