It was a good weekend for Arsenal and Scotland star Kieran Tierney as his Gunners side finally won in the Premier League.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been under intense pressure in recent weeks as the Gunners slid towards the relegation zone over Christmas. A huge London derby on Boxing Day with Chelsea awaited.
It’s one that Arsenal triumphed in, beating their city rivals in a comfortable 3-1 victory. Tierney had a massive part in the first Gunners goal, selling right-back Reece James and forcing the Chelsea man to bring him down in the box.
Alexandre Lacazette stepped and scored the penalty before a Granit Xhaka free kick and bizarre Bukayo Saka cross-turned shot sealed an easy three points. Tammy Abraham scored a consolation for Chelsea.
Tierney enjoyed his afternoon and earning a first Premier League win in eight matches, weighing in on his penalty incident (Sky Sports):“The last few weeks we’ve been in a different situation at half-time, so we did go in more positive.
“As I said, it was ‘keep going’. It was hard work that got us here in the first place, so we need to keep that up first and foremost. We didn’t wait until we went 1-0 down to start playing and create chances, because it’s always hard when you go one down.
“We started on the front foot today and that’s been the message in the last two weeks in training. We did that. I felt contact when I went down, but I’ve not seen it back.”
