Ayr United’s Aston Villa loanee Viljami Sinisalo has returned to Villa Park after suffering a thigh strain.

It’s a big blow for boss David Hopkin, with the teenager a mainstay in the Ayr United team since his arrival from Aston Villa in the summer. Previous manager Mark Kerr, who brought him to Somerset Park, said Villa rate him as ‘one of the best’ young keepers in Europe.

But despite gaining valuable first-team experience, Sinisalo is returning to Aston Villa after a thigh strain. His last performance came in a 3-0 home defeat to Dundee that leaves Ayr one point off the relegation play-off spot.

Previously, Ayr signed Peter Urminsky on an emergency loan from St Mirren after Sinisalo’s unavailability earlier in the campaign. The Aston Villa loanee has made 29 appearances for Ayr, following experience of training with the Birmingham-based side’s first-team.
