Billy Gilmour now looks likely to stay at Chelsea – despite plenty of contrasting reports in recent weeks and days.
The teenage midfielder has been subject of interest and speculation all window. Napoli and Rangers were first linked with loan moves for Scotland’s brightest prospect but the then-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard ruled out a loan move.
Lampard was then sacked, but before that, he put a loan move for Gilmour back on the table. New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel hasn’t included Gilmour in any of his Premier League squads as of yet, ramping up transfer speculation.
Earlier on Deadline Day, Gilmour was linked with Southampton, who were keen on settling a loan move. Gilmour was reportedly asking Chelsea for a temporary switch in order to break into Steve Clarke’s plans for Euro 2020 this summer.
But Tuchel has been impressed by the Scotland starlet in training and it is now thought that Gilmour will fight for his place at Stamford Bridge. He will work to convince his new manager he deserves to build on his two Premier League appearances this term and six overall ahead of Euro 2020 this summer.
