David Gray felt Hibs put in a “complete performance” in their win over St Johnstone.

The head coach beamed with pride after goals from Junior Hoilett, Martin Boyle and Kieron Bowie sealed the points for Hibs at Easter Road.

It was a strong showing from Gray’s troops who have dramatically improved this campaign to sit third in the Scottish Premiership table despite a nervy, poor start to the season.

David Gray says Hibs had a ‘complete performance’ vs St Johnstone

And Gray feels their demolition of the Saints proves how far they’ve come as his players gave him everything with a successful outing.

“It was a complete performance,” he told the club website. “Before the game you set out your game plan and what you’d like to see, and we saw that today.

“Three points, three goals at home, and a clean sheet; that’s everything you could hope for. All the praise goes to the players today for their efforts, they fully deserved the win.”

Gray is a passionate coach and demands the best from his squad at every moment, so three goals was important without reply.

But he is also a bit of a perfectionist and always looks for more.

Gray explains where he nitpicked Hibs’ win

So it wasn’t a big surprise when the Scottish Cup legend explained, in his mind, what could have made the day even better.

“The two goals in the first half were a result of that and a lot of the chances we created,” he added.

“If I’m being a wee bit critical, we, maybe, wasted a few opportunities on our transition, but massive praise again to everyone.

“The back five were high and aggressive, which made the distances shorter for the front three to press the way they did.

“If you think about the international boys coming back too and the amount of travel they’ve done, for them to put in that kind of performance is great to see.”
