There’s some transfer activity at Dens Park as Dundee move to snap up Celtic prospect Jonathan Afolabi on a season-long loan.

The Irishman spent the second half of last season on loan at fellow Championship Dunfermline prior to the curtailment of the 2019/20 season. It came after initially moving to Celtic Park following time at Premier League club Southampton.

Whilst regarded as a promising prospect, his minutes at senior level have been restricted at Parkhead since last summer’s move.

Dundee have opted to give him this experience by snapping him up for the 2020/21 campaign in which James McPake will look for Premiership promotion.

Afolabi is the second striker arrival at Tayside in as many days. On Monday, Jamaican forward Nicholas Hamilton arrived on loan from Canadian side York9 FC for the upcoming term in Scotland’s second tier.

Whilst Hamilton is in quarantine in accordance with Scottish government guidelines after entering the country from Jamaica, Afolabi has already trained with his teammates ahead of Dundee’s League Cup opener against Forfar next week.
