Dundee United are competing with St Mirren for the signature of Aston Villa academy graduate Jake Doyle-Hayes (Courier).

The midfielder impressed for St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership last season after leaving Aston Villa. But he only signed a one-year deal with Jim Goodwin’s side and is now out-of-contract.

St Mirren have been in negotiations with Doyle-Hayes over a new deal for a considerable amount of time and last week put a take it or leave it offer to the former Aston Villa midfielder. Now Thomas Courts’ Dundee United are in the fold.

The Tannadice side have offered the Irishman a deal to keep him in Scotland as Doyle-Hayes looks to seal his future ahead of next season. Courts was named as Dundee United head coach earlier this month and is set to secure former Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew’s services on a two-year deal.
