Louis Moult will miss the busy festive period for Dundee United due to an injury that could keep him out for several weeks.
The striker started United’s 4-3 defeat to Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday and netted against his former side.
But Moult left Lanarkshire with his arm in a sling and fear started to spread regarding the extent of the injury sustained.
The 32-year-old suffered a heavy fall during the game and manager Jim Goodwin insisted that the sling was applied as a precautionary measure.

Louis Moult suffers shoulder injury
However, the Dundee United forward has had a scan and it’s been confirmed he has suffered ligament damage in his shoulder.
The injury is going to keep Moult – who has scored two Premiership goals this season for United – out for a number of weeks.
However, an exact prognosis has not been provided so it’s unclear when exactly Moult could make a return to action for the Terrors.
Moult tweeted on Wednesday night: “Tough one to take personally, but I’ll be back.”
Dundee United games Moult will miss
Moult was starting to develop a strong partnership with fellow striker Sam Dalby, who is currently the Premiership’s top scorer.
But the former Motherwell hitman is now set to miss an important period of games as United aim to regain fourth spot from the Steelmen.
